Terror incidents come down in J-K, says DG

The Director-General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Dilbag Singh briefed Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh about the current security scenario in the valley and said that the terror-related violence in Jammu and Kashmir had come down by 60 per cent. He also informed that the surveillance mechanism both technical and human had been further strengthened in the valley.

New Delhi: The Director-General (DG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Dilbag Singh on Friday called on Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and briefed him about the current security scenario in the valley.

The DG informed the minister that the terror-related violence in Jammu and Kashmir had come down by 60 per cent in less than one and half month of 2020 as compared to the same period in 2019.

The DG said that there has been no major law and order problems during stone pelting incidents at the encounter site or during burial of neutralised terrorist.

The DG also gave a detailed presentation of the overall law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that till February 13, as many as 24 militants have been neutralised, out of which 20 were killed and four arrested.

This is in addition to the arrest of 12 terror operatives involved in grenade attack in Srinagar and other areas and the arrest of 43 overground workers who were providing all kinds of assistance and logistic support to different terror outfits.

DG Singh also informed that the surveillance mechanism both technical and human had been further strengthened.

"As a result of these, the return of seven youths from South Kashmir to their families was possible and they were thus prevented from joining the militant organisations," the DG added.
