New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry (MHA) on Tuesday has said that 10 persons have been arrested in connection with the nexus between people in the film industry and drug traffickers.

The breakthrough took place after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) registered a case in August last to unearth such connection following the death of film star Sushant Singh Rajput.

Giving this information in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said, "Till date, 10 persons have been arrested by the NCB. Drugs such as Ganja, Hashish, Tetra Hydro Cannabinol, and Lysergic acid De-ethylamide have been seized in the operation."

The death of Sushant Singh Rajput and subsequent investigation by the NCB has revealed an unholy nexus between film personalities and drug traffickers. Many of the renowned film personalities came under the scanner of investigating agency following the incident.

Interestingly, prominent film personality Jaya Bachchan Tuesday vehemently criticised film star Kangana Ranaut and film star turned politician Ravi Kishan for their remark on the film industry and drug peddlers connection.

"People in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree. I hope that the government tells such people not to use this kind of language," said Bacchan.

BJP MP Ravi Kishan on Monday said that the Indian film industry is affected by the drug menace. "The NCB has been doing good work. I appeal to the central government to take strict action against the culprits," said Kishan highlighting the existence of drug influence in the Indian film industry.

NCB, it is learned, has prepared a list of more than two six in suspects including kingpins of a drug syndicate, peddlers, and Bollywood personalities who were procuring drugs ranging from marijuana buds to high-quality cocaine.

The investigating agency has been doing an extensive probe into this unholy nexus after personalities from the glamour world of South India have also been found involved in such nexus.

Recently, Kannada actor Ragini Dwivedi has been arrested by the law enforcement agency for her alleged involvement with a drug trafficking syndicate in Bengaluru.

The revelation of the nexus between the film industry and drug lords have, of late, created a much-hyped controversy.
