Mumbai: Observing that 'ridiculous talking and sarcasm' by the in-laws is the wear and tear of the married life, Mumbai Sessions Court has granted bail to an elderly couple accused of treating their daughter-in-law badly.

The court in its order pronounced, "Talking sarcastically and taunting by the in-laws is the wear and tear of the married life, which every family witnesses, saying that there was no need to arrest the elderly couple.

A 30-year-old woman had filed a complaint against her in-laws alleging that she had not known before the marriage that her husband is not the biological son of the old couple. The complainant stated that the elderly couple adopted his husband just a few days before she tied knot with his husband.

In her complaint, she stated that she was not given any gifts at her wedding and was not allowed to visit her parent's place. The woman claimed she was made to sleep in the living room and her mother-in-law would not allow to touch the fridge and would give her stale food to eat.

The lawyers representing her parents told the court that the woman was aware that her husband had been adopted by the couple. The parents also told the court that the woman had, in fact, stayed with her in-laws for only about 10 days in 2018 when the two married, adding that the cost of the marriage was borne by both the parties.

The lawyers claimed that when the woman told her husband about this, he asked her to obey his parents. The accused stated that they had no idea that a complaint was filed against them.

After hearing arguments from both the sides, the court concluded that the allegations levelled by the woman in the FIR against her in-laws are of general nature.
