New Delhi: The Supreme Court refused to stay prosecution against JNU student Sharjeel Imam for making inflammatory speeches against the Citizenship Ammendment Act,2019.
"That's not the prayer before us. We can't pass such interim order," observed the bench. Advocate appearing for Imam had asked for a stay till the matter is decided by the bench.
Imam had moved the Supreme court seeking clubbing of FIRs against him registered in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, UP, Delhi and Manipur.
It gave Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh two weeks time to file their replies on the matter and adjourned the case for hearing after 3 weeks. Delhi and UP have filed their affidavits and the court took them on its record today.
In its earlier hearing on 26th May the court had issued notices to all the above mentioned states.
