Students, belonging to different universities, raised slogans demanding "Azadi" from the new citizenship law and carried posters which read "We stand united against CAA' and 'Agar Tum decent hote toh dissent ko samajhte' (If you were decent, you would have understood dissent).

JNU alumnus Omar Khalid, while speaking to ETV Bharat, said that "those states who are against CAA should also clarify their stand regarding National Population Register (NPR)."

He further said that in the last 5 years when it came to anarchy and secularism, all political parties used to back off, however now when students of various universities raised their voice against Citizenship Amendment Act, then only the opposition parties raised a voice."

He also said that the National Population Register is even more dangerous than the CAA and NRC and is completely different from the census.

Former president of JNU Students Union N Sai Balaji in conversation with ETV Bharat said: "Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the Citizenship Amendment Act is for the persecuted minorities of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan even though there is no mention of persecuted minorities in the law at all."

He further said that this law is against Article 14 of the constitution and it further violates the basic structure of the constitution and that citizenship has not to be fixed on the basis of religion.

Another university student said that the argument being made by the government that this law is not against any religion is absolutely wrong. If the government says so, then why was religion included in the first place and why is it that only one religion has not been included.

They also said that they are working as a pressure group and will keep on protesting until the government does not withdraw the law.
