Srinagar: Nearly two months after the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir was repealed on August 5 and the cancellation of Section 370, barbed wires on most roads, connecting bridges and sub-roads have been removed to provide relief to the Valley's citizens. But barbed wires have been erected at many places in the old city, which is a cause for concern for the residents there.
Not only did people suffer traffic disruptions due to such obstacles on the roads, streets, and bridges, but they also had to spend hours traveling when it should have been minutes.
On the other hand, not just humans, even voiceless animals, could not avoid problems due to the barbed wire on the roads.

Although restrictions have been removed from most of the city's main thoroughfares, the barbed wire network remains intact, even after 6 months in some places in the old city.
As a result of this situation, the residents of the old city, especially in the adjoining areas, are facing many problems. In some places, the business of shopkeepers is also badly affected due to the closure of the inland linkage bridges.
Even before August 5, it was usual for the main roads of the city to be closed due to barbed wires or other barricades, which still continues.

In the wake of strike calls by separatist organisations, roads are closed and public movement is restricted. People, not only in the city, but also in the adjoining areas, have to face various problems in transportation, while the closure of a section of major connecting roads also hampers the movement of traffic.
Although the administration restricts the movement of people with such restrictions to maintain the law and order situation, it is difficult for the general public as well as the students and patients. The administration should be sensitive towards them as well.
