'Speak Up India' campaign crosses 10 crore reach, trended on top worldwide: Congress

While addressing the media, Congress leader Ajay Maken claimed that its online campaign 'Speak Up India' reached out to around 100 million people and trended on top worldwide. Congress launched this campaign to raise voices of the poor, migrants, small businessmen and middle-class people before the Union government.

New Delhi: Congress party, on Thursday, claimed that its online campaign 'Speak Up India' reached out to around 100 million people and trended on top worldwide, getting a huge number of responses regarding the plight of people amid coronavirus pandemic.

Congress launched its online campaign "Speak Up India," at 11 am till 2 pm, aiming to raise voices of the poor, migrants, small businessmen and middle-class people before the Union government. However, the party later claimed that they got many responses even after the stipulated time.

While addressing the media, Congress leader Ajay Maken said, "Today, our online campaign 'Speak Up India' got successful, as we've got many positive responses from the people. Links of about 57.3 lakh activists, leaders and workers have come to our social media department, reaching to more than 10 crore people and impressions were made to 3-4 times of its reach."

He further added, "Its hashtag trended on Twitter at top worldwide. It was like a virtual rally of Congress party with around 10 crores of its reach. India has spoken today and our campaign is just a beginning. We hope that at least now the government will wake up and listen to concerns of people."

Through this campaign, Congress put forward 4 demands from the central government.

Firstly, to provide cash of Rs 7,500 per month to every poor family for the next 6 months.

Secondly, ensuring safe and free travel of migrant labourers back to their homes. Thirdly, to increase the number of workdays to 200 under the MGNREGA scheme. And lastly, to provide instant relief package to small and medium scale businesses.

Earlier on Thursday, Congress President launched a scathing attack on the central government in her video, as a part of this campaign, saying that "everyone across the country except the government heard the cries of pain and trauma of migrant labourers."

While Congress General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the BJP of playing politics, saying that the party is trying to destabilize the Maharashtra government even as it struggles to deal with the coronavirus crisis.
