Family rejects Kashmir militant 'audio clip' as fake

An audio clip of a militant who was killed in a gunbattle in Baramulla has gone viral in which he can be heard saying that he regrets the decision to join the insurgency. However, his family claimed that the audio clip is fake and it has not spoken to him ever since he went missing.

Sopore: An audio clip of one of the militants killed in Kreeri gun battle is making rounds on social media. Family members of Amir claimed that the audio clip is fake.

In the alleged clip, appearing to be the telephonic conversation between Amir and his father, the former can be heard saying, "I regret the decision of joining the insurgency and youngsters should not choose this path."

Twenty-two-year old Amir, a resident of Sopore, had gone missing in June this year and was killed in Wanigam Payeen in Kreeri area of Baramulla district last week. He was a renowned football player in Baramulla district.

Talking to ETV Bharat, Amir's uncle denied that his brother Siraj has ever talked to Amir since he went missing in June.

In a video statement released by Amir's uncle, he said that the audio clip is fake and baseless.

"The voice in the audio is not that of my brother Siraj. The voice appears to be of somebody with South Kashmiri accent. Amir called his father "Abu ji" and his mother as "mummy", and not as is heard in the clip. It is not Amir's voice in the clip," he said.

He further said, "On the day of the encounter, we were not at home and had no clue that Amir was trapped. We were attending a function at our sister's place and came to know about the encounter only when the police called us in the evening to identify the body."

Police have, so far, not issued any statement regarding the clip. Two militants were killed last week in the encounter with security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.

One militant was identified as Amir Siraj of Sopore while another was identified as Abrar alias Langoo who was a Pakistani national. Both were affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit JeM, according to the police.
