New Delhi: Ahead of crucial state assembly polls, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi on Friday approved the proposal of appointing new Vice Chairman and Regional Co-ordinator (West Zone) to the All India Professional Congress (AIPC).

According to a release by General Secretary K.C Venugopal, Salman Soz and Rajiv Arora replace the incumbent Milind Deora from both the positions within the AIPC.

Salman Soz is a national spokesperson for the Indian National Congress (INC) and the current regional Co-ordinator (North Zone).

Youth wing of left parties stage a protest alleging unemployment in the state. Protesters lathi-charged by police. Police stop the procession near Mallika Gate. Although initially trying to persuade, the agitators did not agree. A few left activists were injured.

SFI and DYFI called for a new campaign from Singur yesterday on demand low-cost education, employment, work for everyone, unemployment allowance. On the first day, the procession came from Singur to Dunakuni. Later this morning, the gathering of the Howrah Rail Museum started at Howrah Station.

Later this morning, Police said that the procession will be stopped near the police commissioner's bungalow. A sufficient number of RAF and police personnel were deployed to prevent any collision or unpleasant incident.
