Canning: At least six policemen were injured in West Bengal when supporters of the governing Trinamool Congress attacked a police station in South 24 Parganas district, reports said.
Trouble started when a group of people pelted stones and demanded the release of four TMC supporters from the police station in Radhanagar Bazar.
The four were arrested after a clash with supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Officials said the police station was ransacked and vehicles parked outside were damaged.
The secretary of the BJP in South 24 Parganas unit, Sanjay Nayak, said the incident shows how even police personnel are insecure in the state under TMC rule.
"It is clear the attackers are from the TMC. They have no respect for the law," BJP leader Sayantan Basu said in Kolkata.

Senior Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal minister Firhad Hakim said police will take action against those involved in the attack.
The incident comes as the state prepares for the Assembly elections due next year.
Earlier, BJP President Dilip Ghosh had attacked the TMC govt over corruption and alleged misrule.
“No one is safe in Bengal, be it the activists of an opposition party or the common man. The people of the state are fed up with the misrule of the TMC and are yearning for a change.
The corrupt and the undemocratic TMC government would be ousted from power in the next elections,” Ghosh told a gathering.
