Six farmers attempt mass suicide in Akola's collector's office

Six farmers tried to commit suicide by poisoning themselves at the Additional District Magistrate's office in Akola district of Maharashtra on Monday.

Akola (Maharashtra): Six farmers allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison at the District collector's office in Akola district of Vidarbha on Monday.

Farmers resorted to the extreme act alleged that they were paid less than other farmers for their land, over which government has taken possession for the widening of a highway.

Earlier on July 29, farmers had met the District Magistrate to request to him to grant higher compensation (to them) and even warned to commit suicide if their demand was not acknowledged.
