Congress Chief Spokesperson, Randeep Singh Surjewala said during a press conference, "The decision of the Special Court to acquit all accused in Babri Masjid demolition case, runs counter to Supreme Court judgement as also the constitutional spirit."

He noted that the Supreme Court, in its judgement of November 9, 2019, pronounced by five-judges clearly held that demolition of Babri Masjid as a clear illegality and "egregious violation of the rule of law".

In the para 788 of SC judgement, it was stated, "On 6 December 1992, the structure of the mosque was brought down and the mosque was destroyed. The destruction of the Mosque took place in breach of the order of status quo and assurance given to this Court. The destruction of the mosque and the obliteration of Islamic structure was an egregious violation of rule of law."

Surjewala further added, "Entire Country witnessed a deep-rooted political conspiracy by BJP-RSS and its leaders to destroy the country's communal amity and brotherhood for usurping power at any cost. The then BJP government of Uttar Pradesh was a co-conspirator in the designed attack on India's constitutional ethos."

"Every Indian, who has innate faith in the Constitution as also in the spirit of Communal amity and brotherhood, expects and urges the Central and State Governments to file an appeal, against the decision of Supreme Court founded in error and follow the letter of law and constitution, without any partiality and premeditated prejudice," he asserted.

All the 32 accused, including BJP veterans LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti, Kalyan Singh and Vinay Katiyar, have been acquitted from the case, after almost 28 years. In the verdict, CBI judge Surendra Kumar Yadav said there was no evidence to prove that the demolition was pre-planned.

Congress' leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary also reacted on the matter, while slamming the Government, saying, "When justice is not done it brings terror to the righteous souls and exhilarating joy to the evildoers. When what date is awarded much to the delight of the government the author is awarded with sumptuous pelf and perquisite this may be the recurring phenomena India is heading towards Modiciary instead of judiciary."

When contacted, Congress leader Rashid Alvi said to ETV Bharat, "The Babri Masjid was demolished, but the Court does not hold anyone guilty. Where should we seek justice? We respect the courts, but if they keep pronouncing such judgements, the respect for them will keep reducing."

While Congress senior leader Hussain Dalwai expressed concern over the verdict saying that the people of India might soon lose their trust on judiciary if such judgements became common.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, he said, "This Government is trying to end democratic institutions. This is a very sad day. They got the exact verdict from this Special Court which they always wanted. If judiciary will continue to give such verdicts then the future of this country will be in dark."
