Kolkata: Former West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday wrote a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over a letter written by Sharda scam accused Sudipta Sen. Adhikari has questioned the authenticity and timing of the purported letter written by Sudipto Sen in which the latter alleged that the former had taken huge sum of money from him.

In the letter shot to the investigating agency, Suvendu Adhikari has raised apprehensions about interference with the investigation in the Saradha Chit Fund case, which is being conducted by the CBI pursuant to the Supreme Court.

Adhikari has questioned how a letter written by undertrial prisoner Sudipta Sen, became public and was widely circulated in the press.

“It is my genuine apprehension that there exist suspicious circumstances behind writing of such a letter by the accused Sudipta Sen under duress and the influence of the jail authorities and in connivance with very influential persons," the letter read.

“There is very well-founded apprehension that the said author of the letter is either being influenced or on the contrary holding back information apropos the said scam,” Adhikari has said in his letter.

In the purported letter by Sudipta Sen, had alleged that five politicians of different parties, including Adhikari, had taken huge sums of money from him. The Saradha scam first surfaced in 2013 and CBI has been investigating the multi-crore Ponzi scheme since then.

Over a dozen TMC MLAs and MPs, including ministers, have been questioned by the CBI in connection with the scam and many of these leaders were directly involved in the group's operations.

The West Bengal government had set up a Special Investigating Team to probe the case. The case was later on transferred to the CBI in 2014 following orders from the Supreme Court.
