Bhopal: Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut on Saturday asserted that India needs to bring in tough laws to deal with rape cases, especially gang-rapes.

Ranaut met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan at his official residence and discussed political developments going on in Madhya Pradesh. The actor also visited tourists spot in the city and also offered prayers at Sadar Manzil. The actor is busy shooting for her next movie Dhakkad in Bhopal and she also met state tourism minister Usha Thakur.

"The slow pace of the judiciary system and the harassment of the victim by the law and police delays justice. Most of the rape victims do not file a police complaint, thus the accused are allowed to let go off easily. In Saudi Arabia, the accused are given capital punishment in public in such cases. India needs to set such examples to curb this menace. Strong action must be taken against the culprit," the actor said.

She went on to add, "People rape women to take revenge even for petty reasons. In most of the cases, jilted lovers rape women as the latter is not willing to continue with the relationship. Hence, strong action is needed."

The actor, known for her combative comments, also backed the anti-conversion law passed by the Madhya Pradesh government.

Kangana said, "People should understand that laws are made for the victims so that they get justice. It is not applicable to everybody. This law is for those people who have been cheated through fraudulent means or using fake names on the pretext of marriage.

In another significant development, fresh trouble has mounted for Ranaut after Mahinder Kaur, who was misidentified by Kangana Ranaut as "Shaheen Bagh dadi", has filed a complaint against the actor in a court in Bathinda.

In her complaint, the 73-year-old woman farmer from Punjab said the actor made "false imputations and remarks" against her in a tweet by comparing her with a woman, saying she was the same "dadi" who was part of the Shaheen Bagh protest."By using such remarks, the actor lowered my reputation and prestige," Ms Kaur alleged in the complaint.
