Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that as the Opposition, it was the duty of the Congress to fight for the people, who are distressed to the grave economic situation in the country.

Hitting out at the BJP government, Gehlot said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to deliver on his promises made in the run-up to the 2014 general election.

"He made big promises. Why is there no discussion on those promises now? They (BJP) are just doing politics of nationalism and religion. But the country wants economic progress," he said.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Haryana Congress chief Kumari Selja said that the economic situation was grave in every state.

"The BJP government is trying to hide data, but it has been leaked and it shows that the country is heading towards economic crisis," she said.

Reacting to Union Minister Suresh Angadi's statement where he said weddings showed that the economy of the country was "fine", Selja said, "He must be attending such lavish weddings. I don't think he has ever visited the poor, or else he would have known the anguish of the common man."

Congress to hold 'Bharat Bachao rally' at Ramlila Maidan on Nov 30

New Delhi: The Congress announced on Saturday that its district-level and state-level agitations against the Centre's "anti-people policies" would culminate in a "massive rally" at Ramlila Maidan on November 30.

The party had planned to hold agitations in various parts of the country from November 5 to 15, during which it would take out protests to highlight the failures of the BJP-led government.

"Today, we decided that the agitations at district and state levels will be completed before November 25," Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal told reporters.

"We have decided to hold a massive culminating rally against the anti-people policies of the Central government on November 30 in Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. The meeting has decided to name it as 'Bharat Bachao Rally' because people are suffering very much," he said.

Hitting out at the Centre, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the BJP has ruined the country, pushing India towards starvation and unemployment.

Senior Congress leader hold a meeting to discuss economic slowdown, vegetable price rise

New Delhi: All India Congress(AICC) office-bearers including party secretaries, state Congress Committee presidents and congress Legislative Party leaders on Saturday participated in a meeting being held at Congress war room in New Delhi.

The meeting which is being held at 15 Gurudwara Rakabganj Road(GRG) is being attended by seniors Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi, Mukul Wasnik, Asha Kumari, K Suresh, Sunil Jhankkar, Ashok Gehlot, Anand Sharma among others. 

According to the leaders attending the meeting, discussions will be held over the economic situation in the country and rising prices of different vegetables.

Elaborating over the agenda of the meeting, Congress leader Harish Rawat said, "The condition od the country's economy has reached a worrisome state. It has become a matter of concern for all."

"We will discuss tghe problems being faced by the people starting from unemployment to rising prices of tomatoes and onions," another Congress leader said.
