New Delhi: A day after six Shiv Sena workers attacked a retired Indian Navy Officer over forwarding a cartoon of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the alliance partner of Maharashtra's Maha Vikas Aghadi Government, Congress party denied to comment on the matter, saying that there are other important issues in the country.

On being asked about the Mumbai incident, Congress' Chief Spokesperson and newly appointed General Secretary, Randeep Singh Surjewala replied, "This Government has made a direct attempt on India's democracy and parliamentary structure. Today, the biggest issue for this country is not related to a particular cartoon, but the livelihoods of people."

Avoiding to comment anything upon Shiv Sena, Surjewala attacked media, saying, "In current times, farmers are being beaten up on roads, but we are busy with running the news of a particular actress' residence."

"Economy is sinking, GDP has fallen up to 24 per cent, China has occupied our territory, posted its troops on finger four, but Prime Minister and Defence Minister have become missing. We will raise this issue both inside as well as outside the Parliament," he further added.

Hours after the incident, Mumbai Police arrested at least six people including Shiv Sena leader Kamlesh Kadam, after an FIR was registered.

Welcoming the step taken by Mumbai Police, Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, without taking any name, tweeted, "Good to see the goons who attacked the senior citizen have been arrested. An example must be made of them that taking law into their own hands will not be tolerated. FOE must always be paramount."

The veteran Navy officer succumbed to an eye injury. A case has been registered under IPC section 325 for causing grievous hurt. The entire incident has also been recorded on a CCTV camera.
