Security forces gun down two militants in Pulwama

The encounter between militants and security forces took place after forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists

Pulwama (Jammu and Kashmir): The security forces in Jammu and Kashmir gunned down two militants in the Samboora area of Awantipora and recovered arms and ammunition on Sunday.

According to the officials, two AK rifles along with 4 magazines, 10 rounds of bullets and two pouches with personal items were recovered from the militants.

The firefight between Lashkar-e-Taiba militants and security forces took place after forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists.

The security forces came under heavy fire when they zeroed in on the spot where militants were hiding. The two militants who were killed in the firefight belonged to Tral and Sambora in Pulwama district. However, the police have not yet identified them. The houses of two locals -- Bashir Ahmed and Ghulam Mohammad were partially damaged during the clash.

Earlier, on September 24 one terrorist was killed in an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday, officials said. On September 22, one unidentified terrorist was neutralised by the security forces in an encounter at Chrar-i-Sharief area in Budgam.

On September 17, three terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar during a joint cordon and search operation by Srinagar Police and CRPF.
