Ramanathapuram (Tamil Nadu): More than 2500 students are involved in the record-setting effort of producing 30 lakh seed balls in 72 hours in Ramanathapuram. Martin Charitable Trust in association with the Government of Tamil Nadu organized the event to increase the number of trees as Ramanathapuram is a drought-hit district.
The event was inaugurated by Ramanathapuram district collector, Veera Raghava Rao and Additional District Collector Pradeep Kumar.
At a National School near Pattinamkathan in Ramanathapuram district, 2,500 students, including government school students, have launched a record-breaking effort to create 30 lakh seed balls in 72 hours.
Seven kinds of seeds for the growth of fruit-bearing trees such as guava, custard apple, wood apple and other native species are used for making the balls. The plan is to create a world record by making 30 lakh seed balls in three days and enter Elite World Records and Asian Records Academy.
Students participating in the event are enthusiastic and are busy making seed balls. The event is being reviewed and certified by four world record companies - Elite World Records, Asian Records Academy, Indian Record Chart and Tamil Book of Records.
Talking about the event a student said that "Ramanathapuram district is hit with drought. We are working with 2,500 students to create 30 lakh seed balls in 72 hours. We will distribute this all over the district and make the district green again. I am happy that we are a part of this programme and we have a big role to play."
The distribution and sowing of these seed balls can change the face of the otherwise dry district.
