SC to resume physical hearing soon

The Supreme Court is set to resume physical hearings soon in a hybrid manner wherein the option of physical mode and virtual mode, both will be given to the advocates. Mentioning will also be allowed based on the categories of urgencies in a phased manner.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will resume physical hearing soon in a hybrid manner wherein the option of physical mode and virtual mode, both will be given to the advocates. Physical access to the Advocates on record/their assignees or nominees to the registry will be available from 8th of February.

Today the Chief Justice Of India, SA Bobde, had called a meeting to discuss in this regard, and it was attended by the Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, Chairman of Bar Council of India, office bearers od SCAORA, SCBA and Senior Advocate Vikas Singh.

As per the sources, physical hearing is considered after "considering the medical advice and clearing the existing impediments regarding to Health of the Stakeholders, Technology Infrastructures and availability of staff of registry".

Mentioning will also be allowed based on the categories of urgencies in a phased manner.

Many representations were sent to the Supreme Court to start physical hearing soon as the advocates had been suffering due to virtual hearing. Many advocates did not have the technological infrastructure to appear in the virtual hearing and clients had also reduced leading to severe financial distress to the advocates.

The matter was heard by the CJI as well wherein he had observed that medical professionals are still not advising congregate and only when it is advisable, they can start hearing the matter.

Today in the lawns of the court, few advocates had gathered demanded resumption of physical hearing.
