New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a petition seeking a stay order on the release of an upcoming biopic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the hearing of the matter, the Apex court said that it cannot thwart the release of the film until and less the petitioner, a Congress activist, brought on record the intention of the biopic.
Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said, "How can we decide (the matter) when the movie has not been released and we haven't seen it." The court has also refused to provide a copy of the film to the petitioner.
The petitioner has alleged that the PM's biopic wanted to "manipulate, influence and impress viewers and voters". The matter has now been listed for tomorrow. The film starring actor Vivek Oberoi as Modi was initially supposed to release on April 5th. The biopic has already garnered a lot of controversy on social media.
