SC lawyers sing 'Vande Mataram' supporting CAA; condemn resolution against JNU attack

A group of SC lawyers gathered at the lawns on Wednesday to sing the national song 'Vande Mataram' to lend support to the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act and condemn the Supreme Court Bar Association's (SCBA) resolution against the brutal attack at Jawaharlal Nehru University. This comes a day after a group of lawyers read out the Preamble to the Constitution at the Supreme Court lawns 'upholding constitutional values'.

New Delhi: A day after a group of lawyers read out the Preamble to the Constitution at the Supreme Court lawns, another group of SC advocates gathered at the lawns on Wednesday to sing the national song 'Vande Mataram' to lend support to the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act and condemn the Supreme Court Bar Association's (SCBA) resolution against the brutal attack at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The group of around 30 lawyers included the father-son duo of advocate Hari Shankar Jain and Vishnu Shankar Jain who have represented Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Hindu Mahasabha in the Ayodhya case.

"We gathered to sing Vande Mataram to lend our support to Citizenship (Amendment) Act and condemn the Supreme Court Bar Association's (SCBA) resolution against the attack in JNU," said advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain.

The group of lawyers dressed in their robes also read the Preamble in Hindi.

On January 7, in the backdrop of nationwide protests against CAA-National Register of Citizens- National Population Register, a group of lawyers including senior advocates Prashant Bhushan, Salman Khurshid, Sanjay Parekh, and Kamini Jaiswal among others read out the Preamble to the Constitution of India in unison upholding constitutional values.

The Supreme Court Bar Association had on the same day issued a statement condemning the violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University where a group of masked persons - allegedly belonging to the right-wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) - barged inside the campus with rods and sledgehammers, thrashing students and teachers and wreaking havoc on infrastructure.

“The Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association today resolved to strongly condemn the violence against JNU students by anti-social elements. It further resolved to condemn the inaction on the part of Delhi Police and called upon authorities to act and ensure that the Rule of Law prevailed,” the statement said.

Intro:Around 30 lawyers gathered today in the after noon in the Supreme Court lawn to sing Vande Matram and read preamble in hindi to support the Citizenship Ammendment Act and condemn the Supreme Court Bar Association's(SCBA) resolution which had condemned the JNU attack. This happened after around hundred lawyers had read out preamble yesterday in the apex court's premises.


Body:Yesterday the gathering saw the presence of Senior Advocates Prashant Bhsuhan and Salman Khurshid. Today the gathering included Senior Advocate Hari Shanker Jain, who appeared for Hindu Mahasabha in the Ayodhya case.
