New Delhi: A Supreme Court lawyer on Tuesday served a legal notice to Commissioner of Police, Delhi for "not taking action against the Delhi Police Forces and their officials, who actively participated in the demonstration on November 5 in front of Police Headquarters, ITO."

An advocate of the law firm "Varun Thakur and Associates" has served a legal notice to Delhi Police for not taking action against the Delhi Police Forces and their officials, who took part in the protest outside the Police Headquarters.

In the notice, the law firm also mentioned, "They (Police Forces) also addressed to the Media for their demands and create fears in the Lawyers and the civil society."

The Delhi Police and their Higher Officers also address to the National Media whole day and given a derogatory statement for the Advocates, the notice said.

It issued the statement saying that such an illegal demonstration and irresponsible activities of the police forces is the clear violence of Section 3(1) (a) (b) (c) and 3 (2) of The Police Forces (Restriction of Rights) Act 1966.

This notice came after, a seemingly minor scuffle, which broke out between a group of lawyers and the Delhi police officials, outside the Tis Hazari district court in the national capital on Saturday, snowballed into a major controversy, marred with protests and demonstrations.

The row escalated to widespread protest and turned the city into a virtual battleground. Hundreds of Delhi Police personnel on Tuesday gheraoed the Police Headquarters (PHQ) to protest against repeated incidents of violence against them by lawyers.

Delhi Commissioner of Police Amulya Patnaik also addressed the police personnel protesting at the headquarters.

Reacting over the situation, he said that an FIR has been registered in the incidents in which police personnel were assaulted.
