New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition against the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie "Ram Leela" alleging that the use of the word Ram Leela in the film title and its posters had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus
The petition demanded its immediate removal.
Ram Leela which is a dramatic folk enactment of the life of Lord Ram is popular in India and abroad and included in the list of cultural heritage by UNESCO.
The folk is enacted during the 10-day battle between Lord Ram and Ravan as described in the Hindu religious epic - Ramayana, typically ahead of Dussehra.
In the year 2013, Madhya Pradesh High Court directed striking out the word Ram Leela from its title after the plea alleged that it hurt religious sentiments.
