Sapaul (Bihar): In a case of Triple Talaq, a Saudi-based migrant worker from Bihar's Sapaul district deserted his wife after pronouncing 'talaq' thrice over the phone on Sunday.
Farzana Khatoon, allegedly married to Hafiz Ikramul Haq since 2013 and has been repeatedly taunted by her in-laws for being unable to bear with their demand for Rs 1 lakh dowry.
Hafiz Ikramul Haq's father, Noorul Hoda has been arrested as he is one of the accused named in Farzana's complaint.
Farzana alleged that her situation grew worse as after the birth of her girl child in 2017, and then giving birth to twin girls on July 20, this year.
She further said that her in-laws pressurised her to ask Rs 2 lakh from her parents to take care of the two newly born girls. Eventually, her mother-in-law asked her husband to divorce her so that she could get him married to another woman.
The phone was kept on loudspeaker mode following he uttered 'talaq' thrice. Farzana was driven out of the house on that night itself.
The incident comes after the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill was passed in the Parliament giving three years of imprisonment to men for giving 'triple talaq' to their wives.
This law is a punishable offence among Muslims.
