'S-400 will be game-changer for India, serious concern for Pak and China'

Defence Expert Major General (Retd) PK Sehgal said that the S-400 missile defence system will be a major game-changer for India and a cause of serious concern for its neighbours Pakistan and China.

New Delhi: As India is all ready to acquire lethal S-400 missile systems from Russia in few months, a Defence expert opined that the air defence system will be a game-changer for India and a cause of very serious concern for Pakistan and China.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Defence Expert Major General (Retd) PK Sehgal said, "S-400 is capable of taking on any aerial target, whether it is cruise missile, aircraft, or drones - from a height of 10 metres to 30 km, and a distance of up to 400 km. If the system is deployed 100 km within India, it can shoot down any target in Pakistan. All major airfields in Pakistan come within that range."

On Sunday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov had conveyed that the S-400 air defence system will be delivered to India according to schedule.

On USA's objections to the S- 400 deal, Sehgal said that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar categorically indicated that as far as S-400 is concerned, there will be no compromise on deciding things which are in India's own national interest. New Delhi has told USA that India is going ahead with the deal as the system is the finest in the world.

India has signed a 5.43 billion USD with Russia for five S 400 systems during Indo Russia annual Summit held last year in New Delhi.

India had signed a $ 5.43 billion deal with Russia for the purchase of five S-400 systems during the 19th India-Russia Annual Bilateral Summit in New Delhi on October 5 last year.

S-400 is known as Russia's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system.

China was the first foreign buyer to seal a government-to-government deal with Russia in 2014 to procure the lethal missile system and Moscow has already started delivery of an unknown number of the S-400 missile systems to Beijing.

The S-400 is an upgraded version of the S-300 systems. The missile system, manufactured by Almaz-Antey, has been in service in Russia since 2007.
