Remembering Dr C V Raman, First Noble Prize winner in Physics on National Science Day

Indian Physicist & the first person in Asia to receive the Nobel Prize for Physics, Dr. C V Raman, is well known for his outstanding contribution in the field of science.

Every year, 28th February is celebrated as the National Science day. This day in 1928, Raman effect was discovered by Dr C V Raman. For his outstanding achievements, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics 1930. With this , he became the first person in Asia to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics.

Dr C V Raman did this discovery with the assistance from his student, K.S. Krishnan. Ministry of HRD pays tribute to Dr C V Raman.

Raman effect or Raman scattering is related to when photons scatter and there is exchange of energy and change in the light direction. This is used more by Physicists and Chemists to conduct experiments and to find information about various materials.

Dr K. Savan, ISRO Chairman talked about how science is essential for the development of any country . Sh. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India spoke of how young minds can help in the science & technological progress of the nation.

Science has a lot of importance in our daily lives. To spread this message, National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28th February. PM Modi tweeted to applaud the work of the Indian scientists.

  • Wealth From Waste
  • Science for Nation Building
  • Science for the People, and the People for Science etc.

This year theme is Women in Science.
