Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh is to visit Kashmir, would interact with farmers

Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh (RKM) will be on a five-day visit to Kashmir from November 21. The delegates would interact with the farmers there to ascertain their situation as they were badly affected post abrogation of article 370.

New Delhi: A delegation of Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh (RKM) will go to Kashmir for a five-day visit on November 21, it was announced on Wednesday.

The RKM said that during the visit, the delegation would interact with thousands of farmers in the valley and visit their farms.

The farmers in the valley have been passing through difficult times as transport and phone services were affected badly after article 370, that gave special status to the region, was withdrawn on 5th August.

The farmers have incurred huge losses as their produce could not reach the market on time, and untimely snow also affected their apple orchards.

Recently, a united farmers' delegation visited Kashmir for three days and urged the government to declare it a national calamity and compensate the affected farmers in the valley properly.

The union government has not reacted to the demand as yet. Only talks to buy apples from the valley through the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) took place.

The farmers, however, said that not even one per cent of the total production has been purchased by the NAFED till date.
