New Delhi: Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan inaugurated the pilot project of 'One Nation - One Ration Card' online on Friday. The project has been launched in four states -- Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Paswan was accompanied by many senior officials of the ministry on the occasion.
Under this project, a ration card holder of these 4 states can buy ration from any shop in any of these states. Paswan said that the scheme will be implemented in the entire country from June 1, 2020, after which any ration card holder will be able to buy ration from any PDS shop in the country.
He said that, "The benefit of 'One Nation One Ration Card' Scheme will be more to those people who live in other states for employment."
Paswan reviewed the plan of operation in the four states through video conferencing on Friday. Apart from interacting with beneficiaries from the four states, he also saw a beneficiary from Gujarat buying ration from a PDS shop in Maharshtra.
He said that, "The objective of the 'One Nation One Ration Card' scheme is to provide freedom to the beneficiaries so that they are not dependent on PDS shops in their states. POS machines across all the PDS shops in the country will soon be installed for implementing the scheme everywhere."
