Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman speaks about the Union Budget 2020:

  • The nominal GDP has increased to ₹2.9 trillion. Inflation has been at 4.5%. Central govt's liabilities have come down.
  • The global sentiment towards India is at a very favourable mood. The net FDI flows is 24.4 billion.
  • We've announced a national infrastructure and we are sure that 1 lakh crore can be taken for spending in infra.
  • IIP numbers have registered growth.
  • PMI and PMI services have increased. Forex reserves have been built.
  • Gross GST revenue generation is consistently improving.
  • There's a positive confidence in the Indian economy and the BSE Sensex increased. More than this, repo rate cuts are giving a positive growth."

Countering the Opposition's claim of not providing ample amount of funds to the farmers, BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh Vijay Pal Singh Tomar said that the Narendra Modi- led government has done enough work for the development of the farmers. He further assured the House that maximum farmers have got the amount of Rs 6,000 under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. 

"All the farmers have received an amount of Rs 6,000 in their bank account. Those farmers who have not received the amount, have some documentation problem. Once they complete their documentation properly, we can assure the House that the government will definitely pay them," added Vijay Pal.

Union Budget shattered people's expectation and crashed Sensex, says Congress MP

Congress MP Syed Nasir Hussain from Karnataka said people were waiting for the Union budget with hope as it was being presented when country's economy is in shambles.

Briefing the situation, he said, "GDP is an all-time low, food inflation highest in the last six years and investment growth lowest in the last 17 years, manufacturing lowest in the past 15 years and tax growth lowest in the last 20 years."

"In such a situation people were looking forward to the budget as they were hopeful of new direction and vision. People thought that BJP will fulfil promises made in this year's budget," he added.

He further said," This year's budget not only shattered expectation of common people but also crashed the Sensex."

Deficient allocation of funds for welfare of SC and ST, says BJP MP Narendra Jadhav

BJP MP Narendra Jadhav, said," There is no doubt that budget will play a pivotal role in restoring the Indian economy back to the high growth path within the two years."

However, he also accepted the fact that allocation of a total of Rs 1,38,700 for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes(SCs) and the other backward castes(OBCs) and the Scheduled tribes (STs) is less.

Pointing out the shortcomings in the budget, he said:" The allocation for the welfare of SC and ST has not been larger than what has been provided for which means Rs 8400 crores will be spent less as compared to the last year's budget."

New Delhi: Several ministers will lay papers on the table in the Rajya Sabha concerning their departments on Tuesday, besides further discussion on the Union Budget.

The Union Ministers who will lay papers on the table for their respective ministeries include, Harsh Vardhan for Ministry of Science and Technology, Shripad Yesso Naik for Ministry of AYUSH, Prahalad Singh Patel for Ministry of Culture, Raj Kumar Singh for Ministry of Power, Ashwini Kumar Choubey for Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Anurag Singh Thakur for Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

MPs M. Shanmugama and Ram Narain Dudi of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on labour will table the fourth report on 'the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2019'.

Union Minister Harsh Vardhan will make a statement regarding the status of the implementation of the action taken by the government on the observations/recommendations by the department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare on Demands for Grants.
