Oppn, Govt decide on discussing Delhi violence tomorrow in Rajya Sabha

House adjourned till 11 am tomorrow

Upon resumption of proceedings, the House was adjourned till 11 am tomorrow. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi informed that the Mines and Mineral Laws (Amendment) Bill and the the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Bill will be taken up in the morning tomorrow, followed by discussion on the Delhi violence.

The House has been adjourned till 3.10 pm following disagreement between the Opposition and Government over a Bill. The Opposition wanted the Bill to be taken up tomorrow since it was not listed in today morning's business. The government however, wanted the discussion today itself.

Jaishankar on the situation in Italy

Hoping to fly in medical team to Italy by tomorrow: Jaishankar

Informing the House that the government wanted to ensure that those coming back to India from Italy have a COVID-free certificate, EAM Jaishankar said that obtaining a certificate is proving to be difficult for Indians due to the system in Iran.

"We are hoping to fly in a medical team to Italy by tomorrow, just like we did in Iran," Jaishankar said.

Taking a jibe at an earlier statement of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, TMC MP Derek O'Brien said, "The Foreign Minister made a statement and we (opposition) are making suggestions. Hope the Foreign Minister is getting a message as to who his friends are."

Earlier this month, Jaishankar had said that the reaction of other countries and global bodies to matters such as CAA and the changes in Kashmir had helped India find out who its "friends really are."

Jaishankar said the government is working with Iranian authorities

6,000 Indians in Iran, working to get them back: Jaishankar

Informing the House about the situation in Iran in wake of coronavirus, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that around 6,000 Indians were in Iran, including 1100 pilgrims, 300 students, and 1000 fishermen. "We are working with Iranian authorities to get back the remaining Indian citizens," he said.

"Six Indian health officials are deputed in Iran to set up sampling and testing facilities there. 108 samples were received in India on March 7. People who tested negative were brought back yesterday. Samples of 529 more Indians are being tested in NIV Pune," he added.

Before adjourning House proceedings, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said the notice given by the Leader of the Opposition and other MPs over the need to provide relief to violence-affected people of Delhi and instituting an inquiry commission, will be discussed in the House on Thursday morning.

Rajya Sabha to see fiery Wednesday after MP turmoil

New Delhi: The Congress will raise the issue of defection in Madhya Pradesh in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday after 20 of its MLAs resigned from the party which has pushed the Kamal Nath government in minority in the state.

The Congress has alleged that it's a clear case of manufacturing a majority after the BJP experimented with the same in Manipur, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh and Karnataka.

Congress sources say that they will raise the matter in the upper house, the party will also demand for a discussion on the Delhi riots as Lok Sabha is expected to take the matter for discussion on Wednesday. The party has pressed for discussion on Delhi riots in both the houses.

The Government has also lined up important bills in the house. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present in the house a bill for supplementary grants and also introduce the Direct Tax 'Vivad Se Vishwas Bill, 2020', passed by the Lok Sabha amid pandemonium.

The Government will also introduce the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, the Minister for HRD, will introduce the Central Sanskrit Universities Bill, 2019. 

Shripad Naik, minister for Ayush will introduce two bills - the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Bill, 2019, and the National Commission for Homoeopathy Bill, 2019. 

The upper house has also listed discussions on the working of the Railways to be initiated by Derek O' Brien and on MSME by Tiruchi Shiva. 

The other discussions are on the working of Law Ministry and the Agriculture MInistry.
