Rajasthan doctors success in treatment of COVID-19 patients

Doctors at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur have treated three coronavirus patients with a combination of three drugs, Lopinavir Ritonavir and chloroquine. Lopinavir Ritonavir has proven to be effective in treating SARS and MERS -two other coronavirus that led to outbreaks in the past. The combination has shown benefits in some patients with COVID-19 in India.

Jaipur: Doctors in Rajasthan have cured three coronavirus patients using certain combination of drugs. Now they are receiving phone calls from other states and countries including US on the treatment they have provided to the patients which helped them to recover completely. First case of COVID-19 was reported on March 03. The SMS medical college administration officials held a meeting on the same day to decide the protocol of the treatment.

Treatment

Doctors decided to provide the patient three antiviral drugs, two of them (Lopinavir Ritonavir) are useful in treatment of HIV and one is helpful in treatment of swine flu. Other medicine they decided was chloroquine, which is useful in treatment of malaria and for that they sought permission from the ICMR ( Indian council of medical research) ICMR. And also took the permission of the patients as well before proceeding on to the treatment. The doctors selected safest antiviral drugs for their treatment.

Why these drugs are used for COVID-19

Lopinavir Ritonavir has proven to be effective in treating of SARS and MERS -two other coronavirus that led to outbreaks in the past. Combination has shown benefits in some patients with COVID-19 in India.

Facilities provided at SMS (Sawai Man Singh Hospital)

Isolation ward with 30 beds had been created at the SMS hospital. The facility of isolation ward is available at all medical colleges and at district level. A place has been identified to quarantine patients in all district.

Door-to-Door Survey

1.9 Lakh houses and 9.5 lakh people have been surveyed till 15.03.2020 in Rajasthan

Action taken by govt against black marketing of masks and sanitisers

With the increase in demand ,the state has announced that masks and sanitisers have been included in essential commodities act and if someone is found illegally hoarding and black marketing the two items ,action will be taken against them.
