Rajasthan: Cancer survivor spreads awareness on ill-effects of tobacco consumption

Whenever Zakir Siddiqui spots someone consuming tobacco, he walks up to them and points towards the surgical scars on his face, that he got from his cancer surgery, in a bid to encourage them to get rid of this "harmful habit".

Jhunjhunu (Rajasthan): When he was diagnosed with cancer some 10 years ago, Zakir Siddiqui was devastated, but he fought his way through and survived the dreaded disease.

While some people might be bogged down by the harrowing experience, Siddiqui's misfortune made him stronger and he embarked on a mission to spread awareness on the ill effects of tobacco consumption and consequential chances of developing cancer, and he has devised a unique way of spreading awareness.

Whenever Siddiqui spots someone consuming tobacco, he walks up to them and points towards the surgical scars on his face, that he got from the cancer surgery, in a bid to encourage them to get rid of this "harmful habit".

"It's been 10 years since I was diagnosed with cancer and I am fine now. Whenever I see someone consuming tobacco I just go and stand near them and ask them to take a look at my face in order to spread awareness on the ill effects of tobacco consumption, " Siddiqui told ETV Bharat.

The cancer survivor proudly added, "I have a list with the names of atleast 325 people who got rid of this habit after I persuaded them to do so."

Siddiqui is determined to continue on his mission and deter as many people from consuming tobacco as he can.

"It's been 10 years since I was diagnosed with cancer and I am fine now. Whenever I see someone consuming tobacco I just go and stand near them and ask them to take a look at my face in order to spread awareness on the ill effects of tobacco consumption, " Siddiqui told ETV Bharat.
