Rainwater entered the Yashoda hospital in Secunderabad zone on Wednesday. The hospital car parking resembled a pond. Hospital employees and some other people tightly held a wall to escape from the rushing water, as the heavy flood came from B1 block. Some of the vehicles were submerged in the floodwater.

Fifteen people have died in Hyderabad in rain-related incidents, following incessant rainfall that lashed the city and different parts of Telangana, leading to waterlogging on roads and inundation of some low-lying areas.

The deaths were reported since Tuesday night as downpour triggered wall and house collapse in different places here, officials said.

The state government has declared a holiday on Wednesday and Thursday for all private institutions, offices, non- essential services within Outer Ring Road here in view of rains.

People were advised to stay indoors for the next two days as more rains are expected in the state.

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao and Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav held an emergency meeting with senior officials and reviewed the rescue and relief operations in the city.

Two-day holiday for rain-battered Greater Hyderabad residents

The Telangana government declared a holiday on Wednesday and Thursday within Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Greater Hyderabad in the wake of incessant rains.

Urban Development Secretary Arvind Kumar announced the holiday in all private institutions, offices, and non-essential services and that a work-from-home advisory.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's (GHMC) Disaster Management Director appealed to the area residents to stay home and cooperate in relief activities and normalisation tasks done by Disaster Response Force (DRF). "All efforts are being made to get the city back on track," an official tweet said.

Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy too appealed to people to stay indoors. "It's time again to restrain yourself from coming out. People are requested to reach your police on 100 and DRF teams on 040-29555500 for assistance.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar urged people to avoid going out till the rainwater recedes.

"Traffic advisory is for your own safety and security. Please follow them. Our officers have been working since last night to see that minimum inconvenience is caused to you," he said.

Meanwhile, Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said that incessant heavy rains and its aftermath had worried all. "Apart from the government, everyone of us should take part to help those sufferings, in whatever way possible. Interacting with Telangana Red Cross volunteers today to appreciate their work and motivate them further," she tweeted.

Several residential areas in Hyderabad and suburbs remained inundated on Wednesday as unprecedented rainfall has left at least 13 people dead.

Hyderabad has been lashed by rains since Tuesday evening.

The rains abated early Wednesday, but dozens of colonies both in the city and suburbs remained underwater while waterlogging and fallen trees affected the vehicular traffic within the city and also on the national highways to Vijayawada and Bengaluru.

The heavy rains under the impact of deep depression wreaked havoc in the Telangana capital as overflowing lakes and open nalas flooded roads and colonies.

The highest rainfall in over a century paralysed the city and outskirts, plunging hundreds of colonies into darkness.

People in flooded areas spent a sleepless night. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more rains, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Lokesh Kumar has appealed to people to stay indoors.

Disaster Response Force (DRF) with the help of fire services personnel and police were attending to distress calls from people stranded in floodwater.

Police said dozens of people were rescued from vehicles caught in floodwaters at various places.

Nine people were killed and three injured when a wall collapsed and fell on two houses in Bandlaguda in the old city of Hyderabad.

Two persons drowned and two others went missing in the Gaganpahad area in Shamshabad on the outskirts. Two more persons were feared killed in Abdullahpur, also on the outskirts.

The DRF teams deployed boats to rescue people caught in floodwaters in the Nadeem Colony in Toli Chowki area in the city. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who visited the colony late last night, said 600 people were evacuated from 170 houses and shifted to relief camps.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway after a stretch of the highway came under floodwater.

The movement of traffic was also hit on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway. People were also facing problems in reaching Hyderabad Airport at Shamshabad. Cyberabad police have appealed to those going to the airport to use Outer Ring Road.

Several parts of the city remained without power for more than 12 hours.

According to the weather office, Ghatkesar on the city outskirts received record rainfall of 32.20 cm. Hayathnagar and Hastinapuram recorded 29.45 and 28.30 cm rainfall respectively.

Vice President expresses concerns over heavy rains in Telangana, other states

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday expressed concerns over the damage caused due to heavy rains in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Odisha.

The Vice President sympathised with those affected by the excessive rains and urged all the people to follow the administration's directions to stay safe.

"The news of the loss of life and property due to heavy rains in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Odisha is saddening. My sympathies are with the affected families. I urge all to follow the directions of the civic bodies and stay safe," Naidu's tweet, roughly translated in English from Hindi, read.

Telangana CM orders district administrations to be on alert due to heavy rainfall in State

Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, has directed all Collectors, Commissioners of Police and Superintendents of police to maintain high alert following heavy rainfall in the State.

Kumar in a message to officials late on Tuesday night said: "The Chief Minister called and enquired about the situation in the state. He ordered that the district administrations be on high alert. Heavy rains have lashed the state. In Hyderabad, many areas have received 20 cm of rains in the last 24 hours. A number of untoward incidents have been reported."

"I and DGP are having a teleconference with senior officers related to GHMC areas. You should conduct teleconferences with your district officers and mandal officers. Massive flooding and waterlogging are likely to occur in low lying areas," the message by the chief secretary read.

Collapsing of trees and electric poles may disrupt normal activities. Reservoirs, tanks and streams may overflow causing inundation of low-lying areas and cause low bridges and causeways to overflow, posing threat to traffic and people, Kumar said.

The Collectors and SPs are requested to put the entire district administrations on alert and strictly follow the flood protocol communicated earlier. Special attention needs to be paid to low-lying bridges and causeways and all traffic and pedestrian movement has to be strictly prohibited to ensure no loss of lives, he added.

Heavy rains kill 11 people in Telangana

At least 11 people have died in Telangana following incessant rains that lashed several parts of the state, leading to waterlogging on roads and inundation of some low-lying areas.

Nine persons died when a boundary wall collapsed in Mohammedia Hills in Bandlaguda due to heavy the rains here in the past two days, Hyderabad Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted on Wednesday.

"#HyderabadRains, I was at a spot inspection in Mohammedia Hills, Bandlaguda where a private boundary wall fell resulting in death of 9 people & injuring 2. On my from there, I gave a lift to stranded bus passengers in Shamshabad, now I'm on my way to Talabkatta & Yesrab Nagar, he tweeted.

Some boulders fell on the compound walls of two houses, killing eight people on the spot and injuring four persons. The injured are being treated, a police official said.

Normal life was thrown out of gear at various places in Telangana on Tuesday as heavy rains lashed the state, leading to water-logging in different localities in Hyderabad and other parts of the state.

A 40-year-old woman and her daughter died after the roof of their house collapsed at Ibrahimpatnam area here on Tuesday as heavy rains lashed several parts of Telangana, leading to waterlogging on roads and inundation of some low-lying areas.

The woman and her 15-year-old daughter died on the spot, while her son escaped with minor injuries when the roof of their old house collapsed around 8.00 pm, police said.

According to official data on rainfall (from 8.30 am to 2100 hours on Tuesday), Singapur Township in Medchal Malkajgiri district received 292.5 mm of rainfall, followed by 250.8 mm of rainfall at Verkat Palle in Yadadri-Bhongir district.

Many localities in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits received very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, official sources said. 

The provisional average rainfall in GHMC was 98.9 mm, they said.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar told district collectors and police officials that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao enquired about the heavy rains situation in the state.

The chief minister directed that the administration in districts should be on high alert, an official release issued late on Tuesday night quoted the chief secretary as saying.

The chief secretary urged the district collectors to remain alert and strictly follow the flood protocol communicated earlier.

Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said he has spoken to an National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) official and kept a team ready for flood assistance. 

Two more teams were scheduled to reach Hyderabad by Tuesday night to assist in relief measures in Hyderabad and elsewhere in Telangana, Reddy said in a release late on Tuesday night.

Two persons drowned and two others went missing in the Gaganpahad area in Shamshabad on the outskirts. Two more persons were feared killed in Abdullahpur, also on the outskirts.

The DRF teams deployed boats to rescue people caught in floodwaters in the Nadeem Colony in Toli Chowki area in the city. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who visited the colony late last night, said 600 people were evacuated from 170 houses and shifted to relief camps.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway after a stretch of the highway came under floodwater.

The movement of traffic was also hit on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway. People were also facing problems in reaching Hyderabad Airport at Shamshabad. Cyberabad police have appealed to those going to the airport to use Outer Ring Road.

Several parts of the city remained without power for more than 12 hours.

According to the weather office, Ghatkesar on the city outskirts received record rainfall of 32.20 cm. Hayathnagar and Hastinapuram recorded 29.45 and 28.30 cm rainfall respectively.

Vice President expresses concerns over heavy rains in Telangana, other states

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday expressed concerns over the damage caused due to heavy rains in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Odisha.

The Vice President sympathised with those affected by the excessive rains and urged all the people to follow the administration's directions to stay safe.

"The news of the loss of life and property due to heavy rains in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Odisha is saddening. My sympathies are with the affected families. I urge all to follow the directions of the civic bodies and stay safe," Naidu's tweet, roughly translated in English from Hindi, read.

Telangana CM orders district administrations to be on alert due to heavy rainfall in State

Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, has directed all Collectors, Commissioners of Police and Superintendents of police to maintain high alert following heavy rainfall in the State.

Kumar in a message to officials late on Tuesday night said: "The Chief Minister called and enquired about the situation in the state. He ordered that the district administrations be on high alert. Heavy rains have lashed the state. In Hyderabad, many areas have received 20 cm of rains in the last 24 hours. A number of untoward incidents have been reported."

"I and DGP are having a teleconference with senior officers related to GHMC areas. You should conduct teleconferences with your district officers and mandal officers. Massive flooding and waterlogging are likely to occur in low lying areas," the message by the chief secretary read.

Collapsing of trees and electric poles may disrupt normal activities. Reservoirs, tanks and streams may overflow causing inundation of low-lying areas and cause low bridges and causeways to overflow, posing threat to traffic and people, Kumar said.

The Collectors and SPs are requested to put the entire district administrations on alert and strictly follow the flood protocol communicated earlier. Special attention needs to be paid to low-lying bridges and causeways and all traffic and pedestrian movement has to be strictly prohibited to ensure no loss of lives, he added.

Heavy rains kill 11 people in Telangana

At least 11 people have died in Telangana following incessant rains that lashed several parts of the state, leading to waterlogging on roads and inundation of some low-lying areas.

Nine persons died when a boundary wall collapsed in Mohammedia Hills in Bandlaguda due to heavy the rains here in the past two days, Hyderabad Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted on Wednesday.

Some boulders fell on the compound walls of two houses, killing eight people on the spot and injuring four persons. The injured are being treated, a police official said.

Normal life was thrown out of gear at various places in Telangana on Tuesday as heavy rains lashed the state, leading to water-logging in different localities in Hyderabad and other parts of the state.

Heavy rains lash Hyd, other parts of T'gana; mother, daughter killed in roof collapse

A 40-year-old woman and her daughter died after the roof of their house collapsed at Ibrahimpatnam area here on Tuesday as heavy rains lashed several parts of Telangana, leading to waterlogging on roads and inundation of some low-lying areas.

The woman and her 15-year-old daughter died on the spot, while her son escaped with minor injuries when the roof of their old house collapsed around 8.00 pm, police said.

According to official data on rainfall (from 8.30 am to 2100 hours on Tuesday), Singapur Township in Medchal Malkajgiri district received 292.5 mm of rainfall, followed by 250.8 mm of rainfall at Verkat Palle in Yadadri-Bhongir district.

Many localities in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits received very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, official sources said. 

The provisional average rainfall in GHMC was 98.9 mm, they said.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar told district collectors and police officials that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao enquired about the heavy rains situation in the state.

The chief minister directed that the administration in districts should be on high alert, an official release issued late on Tuesday night quoted the chief secretary as saying.

The chief secretary urged the district collectors to remain alert and strictly follow the flood protocol communicated earlier.

Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said he has spoken to an National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) official and kept a team ready for flood assistance. 

Two more teams were scheduled to reach Hyderabad by Tuesday night to assist in relief measures in Hyderabad and elsewhere in Telangana, Reddy said in a release late on Tuesday night.
