New Delhi: With Rahul Gandhi being adamant over not withdrawing his resignation from the position of Congress party's president, Congress leader Ravneet Singh Bittu said that the ones who didn't perform well should tender their resignation while hinting at the Chief Minister's of the three states where the party had recently won the assembly elections.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Singh said, "Rahul Gandhi played his role efficiently, he gave his 101 percent to ensure that the party wins the election, but the ones who didn't perform well, should be held accountable and they should tender their resignations."
Stressing on Rahul Gandhi's importance in the party, the Ludhiana MP said, "the most important issue for Congress today is to make sure that he (Rahul Gandhi) stays the party president. If he resigns, the party will fall apart and the workers will get demotivated."
When asked if the 49-year-old Congress president resigning out of anger towards some of the party leaders, Singh said, "he is not angry, he is hurt and is taking ownership for the loss of the Congress party in two consecutive Lok Sabha polls. But, it is not his fault alone, we are also to blame, every worker and the member should also be held accountable."
"We are adamant that Rahul Gandhi will not be allowed to take this decision alone. Every worker in the party has demanded that his resignation shouldn't be accepted. In these difficult times, he has even more responsibilities on his shoulder to keep the party together, " added Singh who was in Delhi to attend the Congress party's meeting.
On looking beyond the Gandhi family for choosing the party leadership, Singh said, "He (Rahul Gandhi) wants someone from outside the family to be appointed as the president, but this is a party which was created by the Nehru -Gandhi family post-independence."
"We have also ruled for ten years, what's the big deal in the BJP coming to power again. We have not lost faith in Rahul Gandhi," said Singh while dismissing the idea of Congress losing its morale.
