However, the former Chief of Naval Staff issued a press statement refuting allegations made by Modi in an election rally.

Admiral (Retd) Laxminarayan Ramdas had stated that the late Prime Minister and Mrs Gandhi were embarked on board INS Viraat off Trivandrum en route Lakshadweep, on official duty, to chair meetings of Islands Development Authority (IDA).

While addressing the media, Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "It is nothing but PM Modi and BJP trying to hide their failures."

"It is an acceptance and surrender to defeat, knowing the internal reports and the booth reports of the 5 phases held so far," he added.

"With the kind of lies, repeated day in and day out, our PM has become the symbol of falsehood," Singhvi added.
