Sambalpur: A one-month-old baby girl who was allegedly sold by her parents for Rs 15,000 in Odisha’s Sambalpur district has been rescued by police.
According to reports, parents of the infant, residents of Keutibahal village under Charmal police limits, had sold the baby to a couple of Kusapali village under Rairakhol police limit in the district for Rs 15,000 on October 1.
Acting on an FIR of the complaint lodged by the Childline, a joint team of Rairakhol and Charmal police raided the village last night and rescued the baby.
The couple who bought the child has been detained by police for questioning.
It has been suspected that the father and mother of the baby, parents of six children including the infant, might have sold her over poverty.
