Mehsana (Gujarat): Ahead of Raksha Bandhan on August 3 this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's own sister, Vasantiben has sent a rakhi by courier.

Vasantiben, the PM’s only sister, who lives in Visnagar in Gujarat, sent him a rakhi carrying insignia of a swastika by courier.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Vasantniben said, "Amid this pandemic, I will first look for the safety of my brother. We shouldn't mind because of the current situation in the country. I have sent my Rakhi to him by courier along with a letter. I pray for his long life. He should keep on working like this only."

This year Vasantiben won't be able to tie rakhi on PM Modi's wrist therefore, she has sent the sacred thread via courier.

When Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat, she used to travel to Gandhinagar on Rakshabandhan every year. She used to be the first to tie Rakhi on Modi's wrist. Though upset about not getting a chance to meet her brother, Vasantiben is happy that he is serving the country.

It is to be noted that Rakshan Bandhan will be celebrated on August 3 this year.
