Kozhikode (Kerala): Slamming the BJP-led Central government over the recently amended Citizenship Law, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Deve Gowda on Thursday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to implement Bharatiya Jana Sangh party's agenda across the nation.
"The Central government is playing on people's trust as they have a majority in the Parliament, but it won't succeed anymore. They are designing India into a Hindu Rashtra and abrogation of Article 370 is just a stair to it," the former PM stated while addressing a press meet in Kozhikode.

Gowda also expressed his agitation against the Centre's decision over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and said that the JDS has opposed the law in the Parliament.
"Today our nation is in turmoil and students are in a rage against Centre's actions. Even in the BJP ruling Karnataka, most of the districts have stood against the injustice of the Union government. It is not only the political parties, but all the organisations are defying CAA. It cannot be measured how long the protests will last as well," the Janata Dal (Secular) party member said.
"The country is flooding with local parties and PM Modi cannot ignore their strength in his coming days. JDS will proceed the protest by joining hands with these local parties," Gowda said.
"Though, there has not been any discussion on Janata Dal (Secular)- Loktantrik Janata Dal tie-up at the national level, the state leaders have given consent to get united in Kerala. MP Veerendra Kumar called me via phone, but we could not sit together to discuss the matter till now," the former PM added.
