PM Modi hails medical staff, calls people delivering essential services 'real heroes'

While addressing the 63rd edition of Maan ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the services of medical staff, workers, nurses who are working selflessly to fight against the coronavirus. Modi said that people providing essential services at the time of crisis are 'real heroes' who make sure that the demands of the people are met on time.

New Delhi: In his 63rd edition of Maan ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed frontline soldiers, including doctors, nurses and paramedical staff, who are battling against the COVID-19 pandemic and said that all should take inspiration from them.

He said that People delivering essential services during COVID-19 lockdown are real heroes because they ensure the essential needs of the people are fulfilled.

"In this battle against coronavirus, we have many examples of real heroes in society. People who are at the forefront even in these conditions. On the Namo App, Niranjan Sudhaakar Hebbaale of Bengaluru has written, that such people are daily life heroes. And that is quite right too, these are the people because of whom our daily life runs smoothly," Prime Minister Modi said addressing the 63rd edition of the monthly programme 'Mann Ki Baat'.

Thanking the "foot soldiers" fighting the battle against coronavirus from the frontlines during his Mann Ki Baat address, the Prime Minister said: "There are many soldiers who are fighting coronavirus, not from their homes but from outside their homes. These are our front line soldiers, especially our brothers and sisters on duty as nurses, doctors and paramedical staff."

The Prime Minister further said, "similar to that, think about those drivers and workers, who are continuing to work ceaselessly so that the nation's supply chain of essential goods is not disrupted."

Modi further thanked the banking officials and others, including delivery agents of e-commerce companies and those providing services.

"You might have noticed that the government has kept banking services open. And those working in the banking sector are there at your service - with full commitment and dedication - leading us in this fight. E-commerce companies continuing delivering groceries. Just think, as you watch TV during the lockdown, using phone, internet, and digital payments even while being homebound, someone is working hard to ensure that these services continue uninterrupted," Modi said.

The Prime Minister thanked the people involved in ensuring the continuous supply of goods and services in the country and advised them to 'follow all the safety precautions, take care of themselves and their family members.'

"We have to take inspiration from our frontline soldiers, our nurses and doctors who are battling coronavirus," he said. Recalling touching words of Acharya Charak referring to doctors, Prime Minister said: "Today when I witness the sacrifice, perseverance and dedication of our doctors, the words by Acharya Charak are very much visible in doctor's lives today."

Quoting Charak Modi said: "The best doctor is one who serves the patient with benevolence and not for money and selfish desire." He also stressed that battle against coronavirus is a tough one and required harsh decisions to rdkeep India safe.

It was the first Mann Ki Baat after the 21-day nationwide lockdown was imposed in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.(ANI REPORT)
