PMFME scheme would immensely benefit North East: Rameshwar Teli

After the Pradhanmantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprise (PMFME) was launched, MoS Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli stated that the scheme and extended Operation Greens scheme launched under Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan would directly benefit farmers and micro-entrepreneurs to contribute significantly to the Indian economy.

New Delhi: Ministry of Food Processing Industries has recently launched Pradhanmantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprise(PMFME) to leverage organic food production and Food Industry in India. MoS Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli stated that the scheme would immensely benefit North-East states.

Rameshwar Teli said,"PMFME scheme and extended Operation Greens scheme launched under Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan would directly benefit farmers and micro-entrepreneurs to contribute significantly to the Indian economy."

The food processing industry provides employment to about 55 lakh people in rural areas and this sector is a ray of hope especially for those people who have returned to their villages and homes during COVID-19 crisis, he added.

This is to mention that under PMFME scheme North Eastern state Govt will have to contribute 10 % cost of the project while 90% will be contributed by Union Govt. Under this scheme facility of warehouses, cold storage, marketing and branding will be provided. MoS, food processing informed that the scheme would focus on North East, women, SCs, STs and aspirational districts. North East is well known for its Organic products, pineapple, banana, turmeric, ginger, oranges, black rice, bamboo and other products.

Rameshwar Teli also reviewed 29 projects spread over 9 states under the backward and forward linkages scheme with a grant-in-aid of 89 crores via virtual meet.
