New Delhi: China on Saturday warned India's ruling BJP for putting up posters celebrating National Taiwan Day.

This came after hundreds of posters wishing Taiwan a happy National Day were displayed outside Embassy of China in the national capital. The posters were issued by Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga.

The posters were put up on Friday night on the sidewalk of Shanti Path close to the embassy of China in the capital's diplomatic enclave in Chanakyapuri.

China state-affiliated media on Saturday quoting Chinese analysts tweeted "Hanging up posters arranged by India BJP leader celebrating the “national day” of Taiwan island outside Chinese Embassy in New Delhi is an act of playing with fire, and will only worsen the already soured China-India ties, Chinese analysts warned".

According to 'Global Times' media report, Zhao Gancheng, director of the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies at the Shanghai Institute for International Studies, said, "India is playing with fire by challenging the one-China policy."

Zhao blamed India for inciting anti-China sentiments domestically for the sake of its interests on the Taiwan question and for seeking support over border tensions and said that by doing so, the Indian government is pushing away China as a good neighbour.

Zhao said, "India should not be surprised if consequences including plunging economic and people-to-people exchanges."

China lashed out at India's ruling party BJP saying that the nationalist BJP has been unscrupulously provoking Taiwan question under the surface of India-China ties, and has crossed China's bottom line as it plays the Taiwan card thinking it is a bargaining chip in dealing with China, the Global Times reported.

It also said that the provocation will not bring any good to India and that it will only fuel soured bilateral tensions.

China also went on to blame India for not taking any action to de-escalate tensions after the five-point consensus was reached last month in Moscow and said that it has instead reinforced its military deployment in the region.

What sparked a controversy about Taiwan's National Day celebration is the Chinese embassy in India letter to Indian media refraining them from covering Taiwan's National Day celebration and calling upon them to not refer to Taiwan as a 'nation'.

Reacting to which, Taiwan's foreign minister Joseph Wu asked the Chinese mission to 'get lost'.
