New Delhi: A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court on Friday against the illegal opening up of offices and resumption of operations by the unexempted central PSEs and the government-owned companies.

The PIL has filed against government-owned companies like SAIL and NBCC who deal with non-essential goods.

The PIL stated that the companies have wrongly identified and equated themselves with the government's department under the ministries and have put grave risk to the health of its employees.

Advocates Anil K Aggarwal and K S Wahi have filed the petition where they contend that these government-owned companies have issued orders directing their employees to move out during the lockdown which is a violation of statutory order and regulatory guidelines issued by the central government to contain the coronavirus.

Criticising the companies, the petitioners said: "The order has led to the violation of the restrictions on movement and preventive measure taken by the Central government/government of NCT of Delhi to somehow contain the spread of deadly COVID-19 infection in the country/capital.

The petitioners have sought an urgent hearing in the matter.
