New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said that this year, Pakistani forces have carried out 3,800 unprovoked ceasefire violations and Pakistan’s aid and abetment to cross border terrorism have spilt over to the International boundaries.

“Pakistan forces have continued to engage in unprovoked ceasefire violations and often these violations happen from civilian areas to support infiltration of terrorists across LoC. This year, till date Pakistani forces have carried out 3800 unprovoked ceasefire violations", said MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava during a press briefing.

“There have also been attempts to drop arms and ammunition across the LoC in the garb of civilian activities. We have also witnessed that Pakistan’s aid and abetment to cross border terrorism, smuggling of arms and narcotic substances have spilt over to the international Boundary”, the statement from MEA added.

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) plenary meet is underway and all eyes are on its final call as to whether or not Pakistan will continue in the Greylist.

The global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog will undertake a thorough review of Islamabad's performance in fulfilling the global commitments and standards in the fight against money laundering and terror financing.

The outcome of the FATF meeting will be declared on Friday which will decide the fate of Pakistan.

Replying to a media query on FATF meet, the MEA spokespersons said, “Pakistan has addressed only 21 action items so far out of the 27 action items given to them under their action plan. Six important action items yet to be addressed. As is well known, Pakistan continues to provide a haven to terrorist entities and individuals”.

Pakistan has also not taken any action against several terrorist entities and individuals, including those who have been proscribed by UNSC-such as Masood Azhar, Dawood Ibrahim and Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, Srivastava reiterated.

Confirming about the crucial India-US 2+2 ministerial dialogue to be held on October 27 this year, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “The third India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue will entail a comprehensive discussion on cross-cutting bilateral issues of mutual interest. Both sides will also exchange views on regional and international issues”.

Secretaries Esper and Pompeo will have bilateral meetings with their counterparts, they will also be meeting NSA and there will be a joint call on PM, the spokesperson added.

On being asked whether India will approach the UN member nations to reform the United Nations Security Council on the UN Day which is celebrated on 24 October, the spokesperson said, “This year marks the 75th anniversary of United Nations and to commemorate the occasion, UN had a high-level event last month where PM Modi participated”.

Quoting PM Modi’s speech during the event, Srivastava added, “While the world is a better place for the United Nations and much has been achieved, today’s challenges cannot be fought with outdated structures and comprehensive reform of UN is needed”.

It is to be noted that, to commemorate the founding day of the United Nations, Department of Post, Government of India will be releasing a stamp in the presence of EAM S. Jaishankar.

India attaches the highest priority to the expansion on the UN security council in both its categories-permanent and non- permanent so that it reflects the contemporary realities of the world. India’s tenure as the non-permanent member in the UNSC which begins in 2021 pushes for reformed multilateralism, the MEA added.
