Ajmer (Rajasthan): A delegation of 211 devotees from Pakistan on Saturday arrived at the shrine of Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti at Ajmer to pay their homage to the Sufi saint on the occasion of Urs. The Urs is an annual festival held at Ajmer which commemorates the death anniversary of the Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti.
The ceremonial opening of the 808th Urs of Khwaja Garib Nawaz took place on February 25.
According to sources, at around 2.30 pm, amid tight security, a batch of 211 Pakistani delegates and an embassy officer have reached Ajmer this morning by a special train to attend the 808th ‘Urs’ (death anniversary) of the saint. With the tight security force, they were escorted to Central Girls School with security by 11 buses.
On arrival of Ajmer, the Pakistani delegates were seen happy. In view of the deteriorating atmosphere between the two countries, the Ajmer district administration was also ready to safeguard the security of Pakistani delegates, sources said.
The delegates will offer ‘chaddar’ (sacred cloth) at the shrine on behalf of the Pakistan government and they will remain in Ajmer till March 7.
A few days ago, Ajmer district police have also arrested a youth who had opposed the arrival of Pakistani people to Ajmer.

Reportedly, Ajmer district police and administration have also kept media personnel about 200 meters away from Pakistan citizens.
On this occasion, district collector Vishwa Mohan Sharma, superintendent of police, Kunwar Rashtradeep, ADM City Suresh Sindhi, Bhagwat Singh Rathore, including all administrative officers and police officers were present at the event place and about 500 jawans were deployed in different parts at the railway station.
The anniversary of the Sufi-saint is celebrated in the seventh month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Thousands of pilgrims visit the shrine from all over India and abroad.
