Nagrijuli (Assam): Oriya cultural event was organised at Nagrijuli tea garden in the Baksa district of Assam on Saturday. The program is organised with the collaboration of Oriya Yuva Satra Parisad.
Attending the program, the president of Oriya Yuva Satra Parisad, Laxmi Tanti said, "our language and culture are on the verge of extinction in the State of Assam. Oriya Yuva Satra Parisad has decided to take some initiative for the development of their own culture and language. More than 50 lakhs of Oriya people are living there in Assam now."
The president also criticised the Assam Govt and said, Oriya people have got recognition as a community at the national level but Assam government is doing nothing for the development of these people.
She further said, "Assam govt should take a step to introduce Oriya language as an Advanced language in school level syllabus and research centers for Oriya language must be established in every colleges and universities in the state.
The Oria Yuva Satra Parisad also demands the inclusion of them into the government's proposed ST/SC Status.
