Bhubaneswar (Odisha): Children in the Khandagiri slums of Odisha are contributing their part in tackling the increasing amount of plastic waste across the globe.

They have come forward with an innovative and productive idea to deal with this major issue.

Children create robots from plastic waste

Their slum is filled with pieces of scrap from nearby places. It is difficult for anyone to believe that these young minds craft robots using piles of plastic waste.

Made from items like used bottles and other waste items made of plastic, are robots that look like mini humans.

Also, at some distance from where they work, lie vacuum cleaners made by them from the same scrap, that are efficient in cleaning floors.

Their approach is giving these plastic scraps a new life, and the environment a chance to breathe.

These kids are neither engineers, nor electricians, nor do they come from an aristocratic background so as to be well informed about technology.

But using their hands to build things has always been a passion and it has surpassed the knowledge and artistry of many who are privileged with essential resources.

These children are often found busy making robots, lights or vacuum cleaners. Some of them have also prepared an alternative model to automatically open doors.

The idea is to build robots with scrap, particularly plastic alongside tackling the issue of massive plastic waste production piling up in our surroundings.

These children have aspired to achieve more and move ahead with their technological knowledge, but lack financial support.

But now, they have begun to receive support from Bhubaneswar's Unmukta Foundation after being located by them some time ago.

The Foundation is providing these talented kids with free training for improving their skills.
