Namakkal (Tamil Nadu): Parents were in for a rude shock after they found deworming syrup given by a nurse to prevent their two-month-old baby from fever after vaccination on Sunday in Poththanur in Namakkal district.
Yuvaraj-Anitha, a couple took their two-month-old baby to the nearest health centre in Paandamangalam for vaccinations. When they reached the health centre, Saraswathi, who works as a nurse there, gave the vaccination to the infant. After the vaccination, she gave a syrup to prevent fever to the child.
When the couple came home they found a deworming syrup instead of fever syrup inside the cover.
They rushed to the health centre and asked Saraswathi but she didn't respond properly and told them to buy new syrup. When they consulted about it to another doctor, he said it is deworming syrup and it should not be given to children who are less than a year old.
While speaking to ETV Bharat, Anitha said: "We are well educated so we have identified the wrong medicine but what about other parents who are not educated enough. Action should be taken against the nurse and health care centre."
