'NRC wasn't inclusive for transgenders': Petitioner

Assam's first transgender Judge and petitioner, Swati Bidhan Baruah said that NRC wasn't inclusive for transgenders and forced them to accept male or female as their gender. She pitched SC to take into consideration our petition.

Guwahati: National Register of Citizens (NRC) of Assam excluded around 2,000 transgenders from its list.

'NRC wasn't inclusive for transgenders'

Assam's first transgender Judge and petitioner Swati Bidhan Baruah spoke to the media on the matter of the exclusion of transgender from the list and said: "Most transgender were abandoned they don't have documents pertaining to before 1971. Objection applications didn't contain 'other' as gender category. NRC wasn't inclusive for transgender and forced them to accept male or female as their gender. We're hoping SC will take into consideration our petition."
