New Delhi: After the statement of Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray favouring the implementation of National Population Register (NPR) in the state, both NCP and Congress showed their displeasure over the remark indicating the signs of a crack in the Maharashtra coalition government.

However, Congress party on Thursday dismissed such reports by saying that the final decision will be taken after the approval of all the three alliance parties.

Maharashtra Congress leader and former Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan clarified that there are no such discussions had taken place regarding the implementation of NPR in the state.

"The final decision will be taken after the approval of all the three alliance parties. It will be decided in the Coordination Committee meeting which will be held very soon," he said.

Ashok Chavan went to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi, on Thursday. Calling it a 'Courtsey call' he said that he wanted to meet Congress President from a very long time as she was ill in the past few days. The meeting went on to almost an hour at Sonia Gandhi's residence in Delhi.

While speaking over the remarks of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on "nationalism", Chavan said, "The entire country is going against the ideology of RSS. Congress was always against RSS and their ideology, and will continue to be."
