New Delhi: With India failing once again in its efforts to get JeM chief Masood Azhar declared as a global terrorist, and international community expressing outrage on China blocking the move, security and international affairs experts believe that nothing much would have changed, had he been designated as a proscribed terrorist by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
India, after the Pulwama attack in which over forty paramilitary soldiers were killed, left no stone unturned and went on galvanizing support from the international community on the issue.
A proposal to ban JeM chief Masood Azhar was introduced in the UNSC by France and it was supported by the United States and the United Kingdom along with other nations.
Similar views were expressed by security expert Major General (retired) PK Sehgal, who told ETV Bharat that China has been doing it to serve its own interests.
"On one hand China condemns terrorist attacks and on the other, it blocks the move to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist," he said.
On being asked what options does India have in the prevailing situations, the retired Major General said India has many options and it must exercise them now.
"We should also provide weapons to countries like Taiwan and Vietnam. They have been asking India for arms," he said, adding that it would create hurdles for China.
India does not do so, fearing that China would then create problems in its Northeastern areas.
The security expert said that India must also join hands with all anti-China forces, in order to contain it.
However, both the experts believed that getting people like Masood Azhar would not have helped India much as Pakistan has a history of not following International norms.
Meanwhile, countries that supported India's move have threatened China to pursue other options in case it does not stop supporting terrorists like Azhar.
